Plaza Branch and Central Library will open late at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 due to the Kansas City Marathon.
Picture-book author Giselle Anatol shares Small-Girl Zora and the Shower of Stories, a “tall tale” based on the life and work of legendary writer and folklorist Zora Neale Hurston (born 1891), who challenged audiences to recognize the power of stories and the vibrancy of her small-town community.
Anatol is a professor of English at the University of Kansas, specializing in Caribbean and African American literature, speculative fiction, and multicultural works for young readers. She has edited three collections of essays on popular literature: two on the Harry Potter series and one on the Twilight series. She is also the author of The Things That Fly in the Night, Small-Girl Toni and the Quest for Gold, and contributed to The Haunted States of America.
Program includes a book signing and giveaway while supplies last.
