Meet the Fleet

Our Mobile Services fleet includes several different vehicles, each designed to support specific services and outreach needs. Because of this, you may see different Mobile Services vehicles at community events—not just the Bookmobile. We use the vehicle that best fits the event’s goals and the services we’re providing.

At Home Services Van

The At Home Services van makes scheduled semi-monthly stops at area housing and assisted living centers through Lobby Stops. A small, temporary, pop-up library is set up for residents in a common meeting area or lobby. We offer personalized services at these stops, including curated collections such as large print, DVDs and audiobooks, as well as hand-selected holds tailored to each customer’s interests. Patrons are registered for a library card, if they don’t already have one, and are invited to browse and check out materials on-site and return them at the next visit. The schedule is evaluated every six months to determine locations that will be most beneficial to the community.

Bookmobile

The Bookmobile brings library services to those who may find it difficult to visit our physical locations. Our mission is to connect you with the wide range of resources the library has to offer. Offering nearly all the same services as our library buildings, the Bookmobile allows you to get a library card, borrow books, movies, and more during your visit. It makes scheduled bi-monthly stops at schools, community facilities, neighborhoods, and other locations. The route and stops are reviewed every six months to ensure they best serve the needs of the community. Check out our schedule here!

You can also find the Bookmobile at community events outside of its normally scheduled stops in the evenings or weekends. We bring free books, games, activities, and information about resources available at the Library.

Youth Services Van

The Youth Services Van brings fun craft/STEAM activities, helpful community resources, and free books to children and their families throughout the KC Metro. Services are provided as both regular, monthly visits to various local community spaces and afterschool programs, and special appearances at one-time events such holiday celebrations and resource fairs. The Youth Services team also provides storytimes three times a week to local daycares, manages the KC Loves to Read stations that provide comfortable reading environments to family-based waiting rooms around the city, and maintains the permanent bookwalk installations in Gillham Park and Budd Park. Over the summer, the team also manages the Pop in at the Park program, bringing summer reading, craft activities, and free lunches to KC's public parks all summer long. Our mission is to break through barriers and bring quality library materials and enriching experiences to as many KC families as possible!
