Plaza Branch and Central Library will open late at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 due to the Kansas City Marathon.
Have you ever wondered who first brought the game of soccer to Kansas City? Or maybe how the sport grew?
During this lively event, KCUR 89.3 podcast co-hosts Suzanne Hogan and Mackenzie Martin kick around stories, photos, and archival materials about Kansas City's immigrant, soccer-playing pioneers, the fight for field space, and the rise and dominance of the women’s game.
The conversation draws on the same research Hogan and Martin used to produce the four-part soccer series for A People’s History of Kansas City. They offer a behind-the-scenes look at what — and how — they learned about the sport’s growth, and why FIFA selected Kansas City as a site of the world’s largest soccer tournament.
A People’s History of Kansas City Soccer! exhibition is on display at the Central Library through October 4.
