For parents or caregivers, researching and visiting every school in Kansas City, Missouri, can feel overwhelming and may even be impossible.

To help, Show Me KC Schools hosts the annual City School Fair on the second Saturday in November. Families can explore all the options in one place on Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Central Library in downtown Kansas City.

"One of my favorite parts of the City School Fair is seeing families come together to find the right fit for their children,” says Molly Schemm, Show Me KC Schools’ director of programs and events. “We want families to know they don’t have to figure it all out on their own.”

Representatives from more than 50 district, public charter, private, and faith-based schools—including pre-K, elementary, middle, and high school—will be available for one-to-one conversations, as will current parents, staff, and students.

“So many schools together in one place gives families the chance to ask questions, make connections, and discover opportunities they may not have known existed,” Schemm says.

Parents are encouraged to bring their students to learn more about individual schools, from preschoolers attending for the first time to tweens or teens considering changing schools or attending high school.

“At the end of the day," says Schemm, “we want every family to leave feeling more confident and excited about the possibilities ahead for their children.”

The City School Fair also offers fun for all ages, including face painting, balloon artists, and student raffles. The Library will have a table stocked with a variety of resources.

Teen Services Coordinating Librarian Kelsey Bates says, “This event is made possible with the great partnership that we have with Show Me KC Schools.”

She adds, “The City School Fair really exemplifies the Library's priority to support all learners with this wraparound service.”
